Noida International (Jewar) Airport Conducts Its First Calibration Flight To Test Navigation Systems

Noida International (Jewar) Airport

The main official flight at Noida International Airport (DXN) was a huge step towards the development of its navigation systems. It used a Beechcraft King Air B300 to check the effectiveness of the navigational equipment installed by the Airport Authority of India (AAI). The calibration flight took off from Noida International Airport under clear skies and initiated a series of operations for the seamless functioning of all AAI navigation equipment.

The first phase of the upcoming international airport in Noida is expected to cost Rs 10,056 crore during its development stage, according to PTI. Out of this, about Rs 7,100 crore has already been spent. It will have one runway and terminal building spread over 1,300 hectares which will be able to handle 12 million passengers per year initially.

A credible source from Noida International Airport (NIA) said that construction activities are moving steadfastly aligned with promised timelines. The Air Traffic Control (ATC) Tower stands tall at 38 meters; the Runway is approximately 3,900 meters long – both near completion; and the unveiling IATA code ‘DXN’ achieved significant milestones towards passenger readiness.

Efficient road connectivity is being ensured through the Yamuna Expressway as the primary link to the airport. Further, there would be separate road access for cargo and passenger traffic; with dedicated cargo access from the eastern side of the airport forming part of the strategic planning envisaged for NIA.

Metro & RRTS connectivity forms part integral plan design for NIA with potential High-Speed Rail connectivity between Delhi-Varanasi being considered having a station adjacent to the airport site itself.

Partnerships with airlines have already been made where IndiGo (6E) has signed up while recently Akasa Air (QP) came into strategic collaboration. The Central Government has set a target of achieving 10 MT of air cargo by 2030 to increase India’s share in international cargo volumes.
