The Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS) corridor will be extended from Ghaziabad, which is expected to create new development opportunities. The Namo Bharat train is projected to operate from Ghaziabad to Hapur, Bulandshahr, and Khurja among other cities in the coming years as various transportation initiatives that will significantly improve the region’s transit infrastructure are being worked on by the NCR Planning Board.

The NCR Planning Board has introduced two distinct phases into the Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS). The first phase covered 2001-2011 while the second phase spanned between 2011 and 2021 with approval already having been granted for this by the central government. Inclusion of cities such as Ghaziabad-Meerut, Ghaziabad-Hapur, Ghaziabad-Khurja Shahdara-Shamli Sonipat-Panipat Gurugram-Rewari Barar Square-Delhi Cantt Ballabhgarh-Palwal has been done under its second phase. Currently, work is underway on the Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor where Sahibabad to Modinagar trains have already started operating providing a great relief to many commuters.
Namo Bharat Extention
By 2025 it is expected that the Namo Bharat train service will commence between Delhi and Meerut while large numbers of travelers will benefit from the planned extension of train services from Ghaziabad to Hapur, Khurja, and Bulandshahr. However, funding may pose a challenge due to which priority shall be given towards completing the Jewar Airport line after that only other extensions can be taken up but none should lag behind it too much longer than what could be considered appropriate for such an important project.
Namo Bharat Connectivity
Namo Bharath train will also connect Ghaziabad with Jewar Airport. National Capital Region Transport Corporation is actively working on this project which will be 72.44 km long and have 11 RRTS stations. The estimated cost for the same is around ₹20,637 crore. Currently, the Namo Bharat train is operating from Sahibabad to Modinagar with plans to extend services to Meerut South Station.
Rapid construction is taking place in both cities to expedite the train service between Delhi and Meerut. The 82-km corridor between Delhi-Meerut is expected to be operational by 2025. Additionally, operations on the Ghaziabad-Jewar airport line could start soon.
With the development of Ghaziabad, there will also be an expansion in the metro system of the district including the Metro Phase 3 project from Noida Sector 62 to Sahibabad Station which is currently under pipeline. There are likely going to be further additions made to the metropolis over the next twenty-three years with new routes being put up.NCR Orbital Rail Corridor has been planned for development as well. Ghaziabad Development Authority area may witness significant expansion by 2047 leading increase in population thus necessitating improvements in transport infrastructure, especially the metro system’s growth.
The ongoing Metro Phase 3 project from Noida Sector 62 to Sahibabad Station costs ₹1,873.31 crore which spans a distance of 5.017 kms having five stations as part of it. As urban areas continue expanding, more locations will require metro connections thereby prompting more development work being carried out on this mode so that better connectivity options can be provided for residents. Currently, only one line operates but with proposed expansions, things may change very soon indeed!
