To test the speed, system, safety, brakes, traction performance, and other equipment of the metro a 12-member team from Metro Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) has come to Mumbai for inspection. The inspection by RDSO is expected to be over within 10-12 days. Once the RDSO certificate is received, the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) will be called for a final metro inspection. After this the metro can be opened for the public by July end or the first week of August.

Long Wait For Mumbai’s First Underground Metro
Since 2016 construction work has been going on for Colaba-Bandra-Aarey’s Metro-3 corridor but still Mumbai needs to wait for its first underground metro due to delays in the construction carshed at Aarey. Shed construction was halted for nearly two-and-a-half years because of land dispute. However, over the last two-and-a-half years carshed was constructed rapidly by MMRC & now its construction is in the final stage while the metro administration is preparing to start metro services once the carshed is ready.
Mumbai’s first underground metro will be a lifeline for the financial capital of India and its congested roads. The underground network will cover a distance of 33.5 km transporting about 1.7 million passengers per day and cutting down carbon dioxide emissions by 260000 tons per year. The first phase will be launched in July 2024.
