Dwarka Expressway Delhi Completion Update 2025

Dwarka Expressway

Commuters in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) are in for a major relief as the much-awaited Dwarka Expressway is set to be completed soon. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has confirmed that the Delhi stretch of the expressway will be ready for public use by the end of this year, significantly easing traffic congestion and improving connectivity to IGI Airport.

Traffic Woes Set to End with New Tunnel Integration

One of the key highlights of the project is the nearly completed underground tunnel designed to connect the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway directly to Palam Airport. Once operational, this smart infrastructure move is expected to reduce traffic load by nearly 30% on the Dwarka Expressway. This not only means smoother drives but also contributes to reducing vehicular pollution in the region.

Mega Infrastructure Investment Worth ₹9,000 Crore

Stretching over 30 kilometers, the Dwarka Expressway has been developed at an estimated cost of ₹9,000 crore. The route begins near Shiv Murti in Mahipalpur, Delhi, and extends up to Kherki Daula toll plaza in Gurugram. While the Gurugram segment has been functional for months, the Delhi portion faced minor delays primarily due to tunnel construction. However, the elevated section in Delhi has already been completed.

Direct Airport Access from Dwarka Expressway

A major advantage of this new expressway will be seamless access to Delhi’s IGI Airport. Currently, travelers must rely on the busy Delhi-Gurugram Expressway to reach the airport. With the upcoming tunnel, this travel time will be significantly reduced, eliminating the need for a detour and offering a faster, hassle-free route.

December 2025: Final Deadline for Completion

According to NHAI officials, all construction activities are in full swing, and the expressway, including the tunnel, is expected to be fully operational by December 2025. Once complete, it will open a new chapter in NCR’s urban mobility, making travel more efficient and predictable.
