DMRC Begins Construction of Lajpat Nagar–Saket G Block Corridor

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has officially commenced construction work on the much-awaited Lajpat Nagar–Saket G Block Corridor, marking a significant milestone under Delhi Metro Phase-IV. This corridor is the first non-priority section of Phase-IV where physical construction has begun, highlighting DMRC’s steady progress in expanding Delhi’s urban transport network. The project is expected to bring faster, cleaner, and more efficient connectivity to South Delhi.

Ground-Breaking Ceremony Marks Historic Start

The beginning of construction was marked by the First Test Pile and Ground Breaking Ceremony, held at Pushpa Bhawan near Saket. The event was attended by Dr. Vikas Kumar, Managing Director of DMRC, senior DMRC officials, and representatives from Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), the contractor for this corridor. The test pile symbolizes the start of major civil works and sets the foundation for one of South Delhi’s most important metro links.

Golden Line Corridor: Route and Station Details

The Lajpat Nagar–Saket G Block Corridor, also known as the Golden Line (Line-11), will be an elevated metro corridor consisting of eight stations: Lajpat Nagar, Andrews Ganj, Greater Kailash-1, Chirag Delhi, Pushpa Bhawan, Saket District Centre, Pushp Vihar, and Saket G Block. Once operational, this corridor will significantly reduce travel time and improve accessibility for residents and office-goers across South Delhi.

Boosting Connectivity in South Delhi

This metro corridor is designed to enhance connectivity in key South Delhi areas such as Greater Kailash, Saket, Pushp Vihar, and GK-1. Several reputed schools, government offices, residential colonies, and commercial hubs will benefit from improved metro access. The Golden Line is expected to ease road congestion and offer a reliable alternative to private vehicles, supporting sustainable urban mobility.

Lajpat Nagar to Become a Major Interchange Hub

One of the most important features of this corridor is its seamless integration with existing metro lines. The Golden Line will connect with the Magenta Line at Chirag Delhi and with both the Violet and Pink Lines at Lajpat Nagar. With this, Lajpat Nagar will emerge as a triple interchange station, significantly enhancing commuter convenience and positioning it as a major transit hub in South Delhi.

Progress on Other Phase-IV Corridors

Apart from the Golden Line, other Phase-IV corridors — Inderlok to Indraprastha and Rithala to Narela — are also moving forward. These projects are currently in the tendering and pre-construction stages, reflecting DMRC’s broader plan to strengthen metro connectivity across Delhi and its outskirts.

DMRC’s Commitment to Sustainable Urban Transport

Since its inception, DMRC has played a transformative role in reshaping Delhi’s urban mobility. Known for punctuality, safety, and technological excellence, DMRC continues to set benchmarks in metro rail development. The Lajpat Nagar–Saket G Block Corridor reinforces DMRC’s commitment to providing eco-friendly, efficient, and future-ready public transport, contributing to reduced pollution and improved quality of life in the capital.
