Delhi Metro & Namo Bharat to Offer Hassle-Free Transfers with Single Security Check

Delhi Metro & Namo Bharat Single Security Check

Commuters using Delhi Metro and Namo Bharat trains might not have to go through repetitive security checks. NCRTC and DMRC are collaborating on an integrated model that enables seamless interchange between the two modes of transport without a second screening.

Pilot Project at Anand Vihar

As one of the busiest transit hubs located in the Eastern District of Delhi, Anand Vihar is set to host a pilot project. It is under consideration to create an internal connection between Namo Bharat station where the passengers would directly flow into the Metro Station that allow direct transfer from one platform to another. The intent is to minimize wait time and enhance service delivery by providing a guarantee that if a passenger is screened in one station, he or she is not subjected to the same process at the connecting station.

This initiative is expected to eliminate the cumbersome security checks that most commuters face and ease their travel experience between multiple transport systems in the Delhi and NCR region.

Current Challenges: Time-Consuming Security Checks

Passengers experience delays due to the multiple layers of security they must pass through:

  • Commuter passengers boarding Namo Bharat trains have their security screening done at the departure station. However, should they want to continue their journey using the metro, they must alight from the station and undergo another security screening before they can access the metro platform.
  • The same case applies to passengers who access a Namo Bharat train station from the metro—they have to be screened again before they can use the train.
  • Without an internal passage linking both stations, passengers are required to exit and enter multiple times only to be checked at several points, which is particularly inconvenient during peak hours due to longer waiting times.

During peak periods, the security queue at Anand Vihar for thousands of commuters transiting is checked within 5-10 minutes, leading to undue holdups.

Planned Solution: Direct Access to AFC Gates

In order to alleviate the problem, authorities want to design a way in which passengers can move from Namo Bharat to the metro station and vice versa without having to leave the security-observed zone. Some of the features of this design include:

  • A separate path enabling movement between both stations, which eliminates the stepping-out requirement and reduces the need for multiple checks.
  • Gates for Automatic Fare Collection(AFC) will be directly accessible using a National Common Mobility Card or QR ticket.
  • Ticketing integration will allow the use of a single ticket for both train services, simplifying fare payment for passengers.

Future Expansion Plans

Anand Vihar is being considered the first location for this initiative because the concourse levels are already connected. If the pilot project succeeds, similar setups could be introduced at New Ashok Nagar, Ghaziabad, and other highly used transit areas for better travel streamlined efficiency throughout the region.

Conclusion

Integrating the metro with the Namo Bharat travel system will improve the time efficiency, convenience, and security of passengers. As these develop around the Delhi-NCR region, smarter urban initiatives make public transport less difficult, more user-friendly, and reliable for commuters.
