Construction on Phase 5 of the Delhi-Meerut Expressway is picking up pace due to some recent high-profile efforts. This phase is instrumental in extending the expressway’s reach closer to Meerut city, improving the entire region’s connectivity with the national capital. This project is particularly noteworthy because India’s first 14-lane highway is now undergoing expansion at a faster pace.

Nitin Gadkari’s Directive Speeds Up Construction
The progress was ignited after Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari got the Delhi-Meerut Expressway Project progress update. This happened during one of the meetings focused on the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, which made Gadkari issue strong directives to NHAI. Almost immediately afterward, NHAI seems to step up its efforts and speed up construction on the Meerut side of the Delhi-Meerut Expressway.
New Interchange Near Shakarpur Under Rapid Construction
One of the major constructions includes the new interchange being built near Shakarpur on Hapur Road. It will act as an important access point between different places in Meerut and the expressway. MP Arun Govil stated that a large part of Meerut’s residents are still not provided with uninterrupted travel to Delhi. To this, the Transport Ministry and NHAI have pledged that Phase 5 will be completed by December 2025, which has resulted in visible activity on-site, especially at Jainuddinpur and Shakarpur where construction work is now underway.
