Because of a proposed change in the alignment of the Delhi-Gurugram-Alwar corridor of the Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS), the planned Gurugram Metro rail line from Palam Vihar to Cyber Hub may be rerouted, officials have indicated. Among other things, the RRTS Delhi-Gurugram-Alwar corridor was one of three priority development corridors in the National Capital Region (NCR).

According to an article by The Hindustan Times, a change has been sought in its path from Old Delhi-Gurgaon Road to Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway (NH-48) by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), which is developing it. Now there are reports that this proposal is being considered by the union government.

Delhi–Gurugram–Alwar Corridor

In a meeting last month where they reviewed the NCRTC plan, officials from Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) said on Tuesday that they might choose to alter their Metro route so as not to cross over with RRTS line and cover a maximum number of sectors.

Currently, there are plans to extend the Delhi Metro Yellow Line from Millennium City Centre Gurugram to Cyber Hub via Old Gurugram, Sector 22, Palam Vihar, and Udyog Vihar; it will cover 28.5 kilometers.

The GMRL has dropped its proposal for extending the Metro line from Millennium City Centre Gurugram up till Rapid Metro line\’s Sector 43/44 station as it was not part of the initial Gurugram Metro detailed project report (DPR).

After failing to propose a tender award for a detailed design consultant (DDC) on an earlier occasion too, GMRL has returned DDC proposal back to the tender committee. The DDC will provide a comprehensive design of the entire Metro system including conceptual layout ideas for the proposed 27 stations of line.

It has been said that full structural designs for viaducts, unique spans between them or foot-over bridges and culverts, detailed station layout drawings etc will be delivered by consultant. The design cost of the project is estimated to be Rs 17.68 crore, which needs to be completed within 48 weeks. Notably, GMRL has bid for DDC contract for the third time in a row but failed to find qualified consultants in two previous bids.
