Rekha Gupta, the Chief Minister of Delhi, has certainly gained some attention for her hands-on governance style. Surprising everyone on a Monday night, she went to personally evaluate the road construction work in the Samaypur Badli region. Imagine the disbelief of the commuters and residents when they saw CM walking on the site at a time when most leaders would be tucked away in their offices!

Eyewitnesses claimed that the part of Outer Ring Road adjacent to Samaypur Badli Police Station was incredibly active with construction and even maintained this level of busyness past midnight. Her tour of the site was obviously not a mere inspection but rather aimed to boost motivation that Delhi’s infrastructure needs to be qualitatively upgraded by her government and its departments.
Road Repairs in Full Swing: ₹12.5 Crore Project Underway
While interacting with media, the CM shed some light on the ongoing works as well as on her plans. She also added that the surface on both sides of the Ring Road starting from Madhuban Chowk upto Mukarba Chowk would also have dense bitumen surfacing. The additional work for this particular segment is estimated to cost ₹12.5 crores and will be incorporated with her goal to remove potholes from the roads and increase vehicular movement in the city.
“Before the monsoons, we will make sure the Ring Road is free of potholes,” she said. As per her statement, this primary vital road has one of the maximum vehicle movement frequencies and is important for commuters in Delhi. She also told the public that the whole stretch will be much smoother and safer which will greatly improve travel.
Infringement Enforcement: Notice to Unauthorized Residents
Another serious issue of the city’s infrastructure was taken care of when Delhi’s minister Parvesh Verma highlighted the issue of infringing public space, especially on roads which has become a major issue.
He raised concerns over the municipal and PWD roads which are used by vehicular traffic and have been occupied by unauthorized roadside hawkers which has created congestion and blocked pedestrian access.
To solve this, she appointed the STF which is a combination of staff members from the municipal corporation, the district admin as well as traffic police and they will be the ones with the power to remove unauthorized encroachments and capture video and photographic evidence to ensure compliance. Any officer whose role is to block a repeated encroachment and does fail to stop a consistent encroachment will be answerable.
A Different Time For The Roads in Delhi?
With a focused Chief Minister (CM), who is overseeing construction works himself, the scrupulous removal of illegal road blocks also shows promise of significant improvement to Delhi’s urban infrastructure. If these efforts are maintained, residents can expect less jarring and more organized road and traffic conditions along with noticeable improvement in several infrastructural features.
We will have to wait and see how effectively these promises are kept; only one thing is clear: Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has no problem unleashing her fury at the unholy hour of twelve.
