ISBT May Shift From Kashmere Gate

The Narela or Singhu region on the Delhi-Haryana border may become the new location for the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) at Kashmere Gate in central Delhi. On Thursday, Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena assessed traffic congestion and instructed the Transport Commissioner to chalk out a plan to shift the bus terminal, which witnesses the movement of thousands of vehicles daily and is one of the busiest places in Delhi where over 50,000 people travel daily.

A few months ago, an organization named Guru Hanuman Society of India sent a suggestion to the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi pointing out that there is severe crowding at ISBT Kashmere Gate on Ring Road which causes inconvenience to thousands of people. Kashmere Gate area has many important locations such as Hanuman Temple, residential areas, Old Delhi Railway Station, Lt Governor’s residence, Asia’s biggest motor vehicle accessories market, Election Commission office, various universities and colleges schools Nigambodh Ghat Chandni Chowk market Red Fort Civil Lines area are within very short distance from here.

There are thousands of buses taxis auto-rickshaws private vehicles etc ply through this area creating hell like situation with massive traffic jams consuming a lot of time and fuel energy causing pollution and even hampering the movement of emergency vehicles (police ambulance fire service postal services) leading to road accidents contributing to crimes like theft snatching begging child exploitation etc added a member.
