Magenta Line: 2.2 km Extension Will Be Underground

The distance from Janakpuri West to Krishna Park Extension is just 2.2 km. This entire section will be underground, but passengers have to change trains to go from Janakpuri to Krishna Park. According to DMRC officials, currently, Janakpuri West is the terminal station of Magenta Line. Two platforms have been built at this underground station, where trains currently come and go to Botanical Garden but now one of these platforms has been reserved for going from Janakpuri to Krishna Park Extension, from where a separate train will take passengers further. Passengers coming from the Botanical Garden side who need to go from Janakpuri West to Krishna Park Extension will first have to get off the train at platform number 4 of Janakpuri West and then board another train from platform number 3 next to it towards Krishna Park. This system would be similar to what has been made on Pink Line To Go From Maujpur To Shiv Vihar, wherein the Pink Line train needs another train at maujpur-Babarpur for the onward journey.

Metro officials informed that beyond Krishna Park, the metro line will be elevated. For this, a ramp has been constructed here, from where the train will reverse and return to Janakpuri. Since reversing takes more time this system has been made so that train operations are not affected on the rest of the line. Passengers will have to board another train beyond Janakpuri. The train which will terminate at Janakpuri West after coming from the Botanical Garden, will depart from the same platform to minimize disruptions in the train schedule.DMRC\’s Principal Executive Director Anuj Dayal said that all systems installed on the new metro section between Janakpuri West and Krishna Park Extension are currently being tested. Trial runs with metro trains would start soon, thereafter, a request for safety inspection by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) would be made and DMRC hopes to open this section for passenger use by the end of next month.

There Will Be 22 New Metro Stations

The extension of the Magenta Line will be the longest among the three lines of Phase 4. A 29.26 km long metro line will be constructed between Janakpuri West and Ramakrishna Ashram Marg having a total of 22 new metro stations. Out of this 19.52 km shall be elevated while 9.4 km will be underground. With the completion of this line,8 new interchange stations will also added to the metro network
