There was discontent among Ex parte i. e. passengers, and several officers along with GRP and RPF reached the place without loss of time. The Railway Ministry has ordered a probe into the particular incident.

In a separate case of a railway accident, a trackman named Mahadeva saved the lives of thousands of people from a major disaster on March 22, Friday, on the Konkan Railway track between Kumta and Honnavar. Mahadeva, while on a usual track inspection that started at 4:50 AM, found out that one of the joints on the track was not fully welded and was likely going to be dangerous.

But there was no denying the urgency. So Mahadeva did not waste time and raised the alarm to Kumta station but the train had already left and was in a way, which was prone to danger.

Lacking in options, and with no way to reach the loco pilot, he managed to cover half a kilometer in five minutes and successfully stopped the express train, saving the day.

When the repairs were completed, the train made fresh advances toward Karwar on its onward journey. Due to Mahadeva’s quick actions and courage, many lives were saved, for which he was awarded a cash prize of Rs 15,000 issued by Konkan Railway CMD Santhosh Kumar Jha along with many otherawardsfrom Senior Engineer B S Nadge.
