An official from the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has said that the Mumbai-Goa highway, much debated, will be ready by this December. He was referring to the 84 km road stretch between Panvel and Indapur.
According to him, this section is divided into two packages of 42.3 km each. The first package between Panvel and Kasu has made significant progress with over 85% of physical works being completed. About 39 km of road concreting out of 40 km has been completed while about nine km out of 23.7 km parallel service road concreting has also been done in this segment. Besides, vehicular underpasses at Gadab in Pen taluka are under progress.
Mumbai-Goa Highway Update
The second package between Kasu and Indapur is also a 42.3 km long stretch where the earlier contractor had completed construction of four lane for about 26.67 km. Remaining work is handed over to Kalyan Toll Infra Pvt Ltd; around 45% physical works have been completed here so far.
He said that project will be completed by December 2024 and contractor is maintaining completed sections for smooth traffic flow on one hand while pre-monsoon activities have been taken up with necessary precautions for traffic management during monsoon season on the other.
The Mumbai-Goa highway stretches 555 km and is expected to connect Mumbai and Goa including Maharashtra part upto Patradevi in Sindhudurg district which is about 460 kms — meanwhile NHAI is constructing only these 84 kms in Maharashtra whereas remaining 376 kms have been undertaken by state Public Works Department (PWD).
