In particular, the completion of several expressways in India is a significant development. The construction of these highways will cut down travel time between cities and make long-distance road journeys easier. One such project is the Pune-Bangalore expressway which spans 700 km. It’s predicted that this highway will reduce travel time between the two cities by over fifty percent. It’ll enhance commuting and drive economic growth for both Bangalore and Pune.
The Bangalore-Pune Expressway will pass through 12 districts across Maharashtra and Karnataka states. In Maharashtra, it has three districts namely Pune, Satara, and Sangli while in Karnataka there are nine districts which include Belgaum, Bagalkot, Gadag, Koppal, Vijayanagara, Davangere, Chitradurga, Tumkur and Bangalore Rural Districts. It starts at Kanjle on the Pune Ring Road and ends near the Satellite Ring Road in the Bangalore Metropolitan Area.
Pune-Bangalore Expressway Distance
This expressway forms part of the Bharatmala Project intending to improve connectivity between these two cities. The new alignment will save around 95 km as compared to the existing route and reduce the journey time from 18-19 hours presently to about 7 hours thereby avoiding congestion caused due to traffic.
According to media reports, it is estimated that the Bangalore-Pune Expressway may cost Rs 50,000 crore overall and should be finished by 2028 assuming there are no delays or setbacks along the way; initially six-laned but the potential exists for eight lanes later if required; NHAI overseeing construction work for remaining sections after completing first part comprising seventy-two kilometers so far which allows vehicles speeds up to one hundred twenty kilometers per hour (120 km/h).
Reports suggest that the total cost of building this expressway would be around INR 500 Billion ($6.7 billion dollars) with the completion date set somewhere within the next twelve years (2028). At the present stage, there has been completed 72 KM out of the total length while the remaining portion is expected to be ready soon as construction activities progress rapidly under NHAI supervision.
To enable higher speeds the expressway will have a provision for vehicles to travel at 120 km/h. It must be noted that the stretch of about seventy-two kilometers has already been constructed and now work on other parts is going on speedily under NHAI monitoring.
Pune-Bangalore Expressway shall be an access-controlled greenfield expressway designed for high-speed travel. The expressway will also have two emergency airstrips and twenty-two interchanges. The design takes into account heavy rainfall areas and adverse weather conditions so as not only to ensure passenger comfort but also to make it a durable aesthetically pleasing road considering durability during rains.
