The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for two new metro routes in Gurugram, also known as Millennium City, will be finalized soon. During the 57th board meeting of Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation Limited (HMRTC) on August 6, chaired by Haryana\’s Chief Secretary TVSN Prasad, the preparation of the DPR for these routes was approved. Once the election code of conduct is lifted, HMRTC will assign the task of DPR preparation to a company.

HMRTC has proposed new metro routes: one from Bhondsi village on Gurugram-Sohna Road to Gurugram Railway Station and another from Golf Course Extension Road to Sector 5. The route from Bhondsi to Gurugram Railway Station will be about 17.9 kilometers long passing through Subhash Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, Sohna Chowk, and the railway road before reaching the station.
The second route which is from Golf Course Extension Road to Sector 5 would be approximately 13.6 km long covering Hong Kong Bazaar, RD City, Millennium City Centre Metro Station, Signature Tower, Maharana Pratap Chowk, Atul Kataria Chowk and Sheetla Mata Road.
The project has been estimated to cost around ₹5,500 crores
The state government also plans a metro line from Millennium City Centre to Cyber City with an estimated cost of ₹5,500crores. Gurugram Metro Rail Limited(GMRL) has already been constituted for this project and it is currently working on the tender procedure.
Several metro stations along this new route in Old Gurugram would connect with other proposed routes such as Subhash Chowk, Ashok Vihar, and Millennium City Centre Metro Station.
Plans for 143 km of metro lines in Gurugram
HMRTC aims at developing a metro network of about 143 kilometers across Gurugram. This includes a 28.5-kilometre line from Millennium City Centre Metro Station to Cyber City, a 7-km stretch from Rezangla Chowk to Dwarka Sector 21, around 10 kilometers from Faridabad to Vatika Chowk in Gurugram, a 31-km route from Vatika Chowk to Pachgaon via Kherki Daula Toll Plaza, a 17 km line from Bhondsi to the railway station, a 14 km line from Golf Course Extension Road to Sector 5,17 km stretch between Kherki Daula and Sector 111 and a19km route between Manesar and New Colony Mode via Pataudi Road. These developments will significantly enhance the convenience of commuting for residents.
GMRL and Staff Recruitment Underway
GMRL for the proposed metro in Old Gurugram has been founded and staff recruitment is under process. A company has applied for tender under Detailed Design Consultant which is currently being examined. Land and water samples from the area between Millennium City Centre Metro Station and Sector9 have been taken and are being tested which will help in designing the metro pillars.
Galleria Road Metro Plan
GMRL is also planning to extend metro services along Galleria Road. This proposal was discussed during a recent GMRL board meeting. After starting the metro in Old Gurugram this route will be given priority. The metro line will go from Millennium City Centre Metro Station to Galleria Road and then connect with Golf Course Road thereby linking it with the nearby Rapid Metro station at sector43. This extension will benefit societies along Golf Course Road and Sushant Lok too where residents can easily travel by this mode of transport.
