DDA to Develop Multi-Sports Complex in Rohini Sector 34

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) plans to build a multi-sport integrated stadium and complex on a 22.2-hectare site located in Rohini, Sector 34, Northwestern Delhi. The robust sporting infrastructure is designed to meet global standards for both professional and recreational use and will encourage world-class sporting activities.

Highlights Of The Under-Construction Sports Complex

The proposed sports complex will include Olympic-grade venues, stadiums, and training facilities for both amateur and professional athletes, enabling the region to host international sporting activities and competitions. Other infrastructure parts of the development include accommodation for athletes, premium healthcare and physical fitness centers, specialized sports training facilities, and hotels.

Construction is also set to begin on another multi-sport facility in Narela which is expected to occupy 20 hectares of land, thereby improving the sports infrastructure in Delhi.

A Complete Package of Sports And Leisure Activities

DDA revealed in the Expression of Interest (EOI) the additional supporting structure that will be included in the complex such as:

  • Rehabilitation centers and medicine clinics specializing in sports
  • Internal roads for transportation inside the complex
  • Plazas and parks for relaxation with greenery
  • Multiple level parking

In addition to the previously mentioned infrastructure, the sports complex will provide recreational parks, food courts, commercial areas, and venues for banquets and gatherings.

Nevertheless, these will act as supplementary facilities to the central sporting development areas.

Procedure for Submission and Timeline

A consultation meeting with prospective applicants was scheduled for March 26, while the deadline for submitting the EOI was set for April 9. As per DDA officials, only those with more than ten years of experience in the construction and management of stadiums or sports franchises are qualified to participate in the open tender.

Importance of Strategic Location and Development

The Rohini sports complex will include access roads that are well connected on three sides and will be developed under a leasehold system for 60 years and controlled through an annual license fee. At the moment, the area is lying idle as its land use has been changed from recreational to public and semi-public sports facilities due to a notification issued on August 26, 2013.

According to the Master Plan of Delhi 2021, the project will have an allowable Floor Area Ratio (FAR) of 40 and 20% ground coverage. The height of the buildings will be depending on clearance from the concerned agencies including the fire authority.

DDA sports facilities available

DDA currently supervises 17 sports complexes in Delhi which serve approximately 53,386 registered users and 2,13,230 people a month.

These coaching programs are open to members and non-members, with around 158 offered across numerous facilities. These include:

  • Chilla Sports Complex
  • Commonwealth Games Village
  • Saket
  • Siri Fort
  • Dwarka Sector 17
  • Roshanara Club

DDA also owns three golf courses, which include: Qutab Golf Course, Bhalswa Golf Course, and Dwarka Golf Course. This further increases the recreational and sports activities available in the region.
