On Monday night, the roof of a part of the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Delhi came down, injuring two people. The incident happened just days after the collapse of a roof at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport killed one person and injured several others.
According to Delhi Police, the incident at the Hyatt Regency Hotel took place on July 1 when a temporary shed in the hotel compound collapsed. Two persons got injured after being trapped under the debris.
The injured were rushed to Fortis Hospital where they are currently undergoing treatment. The police are investigating why the roof of the luxury hotel collapsed.
Three days ago, a significant collapse of roof, canopy, and beams took place at Delhi airport which killed one person, crushed cars and disrupted flights.
Debris still lies scattered outside the airport following Sunday\’s collapse that led to the cancellation of dozens of flights and delays for thousands of passengers. Domestic airlines have moved their operations from T1 to T2 and T3 as T1 remains under maintenance.
On Friday, Delhi airport operator DIAL announced the formation of a technical committee to investigate into roof collapse at Terminal 1. Preliminary findings suggest continuous heavy rainfall was one reason.
After the airport incident, structural engineers from IIT Delhi were roped in by the civil aviation ministry for a technical study of the partial collapse of the canopy. The technical study will take about one month for T1. The decision on resuming operations will be taken after review.
Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), operated by GMR Group-led consortium DIAL, has three terminals—T1, T2 and T3—and handles around 1400 flight movements daily with its three runways. While T2 is used by some full-service carriers and all international airlines, budget carriers IndiGo and SpiceJet operate out of T1
