The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has rolled out an e-auction for more than 200 premium properties on a licence-fee basis, aiming to create additional event spaces during the upcoming festive season. With the demand for large, organized venues rising ahead of Diwali and other festivals, this move is expected to ease pressure on existing facilities while also offering new opportunities for entrepreneurs and organizations.

Range of Properties Available
Among the properties up for bidding are over 115 function sites designed to host both religious and non-religious gatherings. In addition, the auction includes kiosks, Aarambh Cafés, the Amrit Dhara Food Court, a shopping centre, and around 80 mobile tower locations. According to DDA officials, many of these sites are open spaces that can easily be adapted for cultural, social, and commercial events.
Flexible Tenure and Transparent Categories
The properties are being offered for a duration of 10 to 12 months, making them suitable for both short-term and seasonal use. A mix of old and newly identified sites have been brought into the auction pool, all of which are free from legal complications. To ensure a fair process, the DDA has divided the offerings into six categories, giving bidders clarity and flexibility in choosing the right property for their needs.
Key Dates and Registration Process
The registration process for these properties will begin on August 26, and applicants will be required to submit their earnest money deposits as part of the process. The last date for registration is September 25, after which the e-auuctions will officially commence from September 30. Interested individuals and organizations can visit the official DDA website to register and participate in the auction.
Aarambh Cafés and Libraries in Focus
One of the highlights of this auction is the inclusion of Aarambh Cafés, which were developed as part of a larger initiative to repurpose community halls into libraries. These cafés are designed to complement study spaces and provide a safe, affordable environment for students. Out of the five cafés listed, three are already operational in Old Rajinder Nagar, Adhchini, and Dwarka Sector 16B, while the other two at Vikaspuri and Rohini are under construction.
A Step Towards Student-Friendly Spaces
The Aarambh libraries, launched under the guidance of Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, were established following the tragic Rajinder Nagar incident of July 2024, where three students lost their lives. These libraries are part of a transformative effort to provide Delhi’s student community with safe, modern, and affordable spaces for learning. The inclusion of Aarambh Cafés in the auction further strengthens this initiative by integrating leisure and study-friendly amenities.
Additional Commercial Properties
Alongside event sites and cafés, the DDA auction also features a shopping centre in Dwarka Sector 23, eight kiosks at Vikas Sadan, the Amrit Dhara Food Court in Dwarka Sector 9, and multiple mobile tower sites spread across the city. These properties are expected to attract significant interest from both small business owners and larger commercial operators looking to expand their footprint in Delhi.
Conclusion: A Win-Win for Delhi’s Growth
The DDA’s decision to e-auction over 200 diverse properties is being seen as a progressive step toward efficient urban management. While it will generate revenue for the authority, it will also boost Delhi’s cultural, social, and business ecosystem by providing new venues and facilities. With transparent digital processes, diverse property options, and clear timelines, the initiative is expected to draw strong participation and set the stage for a more vibrant festive season in the capital.
