The cabinet of the Central Government has given its approval for a fresh six-lane high-speed corridor between Agra and Gwalior. The route, while passing through the rural areas of Dholpur like Bakshpura, Chilpura, Ajitpura, etc., will end at Gwalior. This new route is expected to greatly smoothen travel for people living in those parts by bringing down the distance between Delhi-Agra-Gwalior. Also, it will enhance development in Dholpur and other rural areas nearby thereby benefiting local people a lot. It should be finished within two-and-a-half years.
Agra-Gwalior Corridor Route & villages
Initially called the Greenfield Expressway project but now being developed as a high-speed corridor; it would start from Susera village near Rayaru-Jhansi bypass (Gwalior) and terminate at Devari village (Agra) after passing through major points like Shani Dev Temple Road, Urhana, Piparsewa, Morena, Dholpur and Agra. This corridor is expected to reduce travel time between Agra & Gwalior from 2hrs-30mins to 1hr besides improving Delhi’s travel efficiency too. The expressway would connect with Gwalior Industrial Zone thereby enhancing access for residents from Dholpur towards industrial opportunities as well as better integrating them with these sectors.
This will help in promoting housing projects along with commercial & industrial growths around Dholpur which would push up land demand & prices in this region significantly, a large part of Dholpur getting direct connection with Agra-Delhi and Morena-Gwalior routes.
Before meeting ring road at Devari (Agra), this new corridor shall pass through certain villages of Dholpur namely Bakshpura, Chilpura, Kamrian Ka Pura Chandia Ka Pura Pureni Bahri Ka Pura Farshpura Jangipura Basai Kare Hanumanpura Pahadi Machhriya Dodi Ka Pura Nadooli Gehndi Beech Ka Pura Ajitpura Nagar.
In order to make it accessible, 4-5 loops shall be constructed along the corridor which will be fully controlled with walls on either side. Loops are proposed in Morena, Dholpur, and Agra every 20-25 km; one at NH 552 on Rajakhera Road in Dholpur besides one more towards Agra on a state highway, etc. The expressway shall connect the Yamuna Expressway through a ring road in Agra.
This 6-lane corridor of 88.4 km will have one ROB, two flyovers, and nine bridges across rivers like Chambal, Kaveri & Kwari, etc. five large as well as four small bridges besides 47 culverts. Estimated to cost around Rs.4613 crore; this project will be developed on a BOT basis (Build-Operate-Transfer) and is likely to reduce travel time between Agra & Gwalior by up to half.
