India\’s first bullet train project has been given a significant boost as the Kaveri River bridge in Navsari district, Gujarat was inaugurated on August 25. This is the eleventh work being done out of the twenty-four planned river bridges on the ambitious Bullet Train Corridor which connects Mumbai and Ahmedabad in the state.

The Kaveri River bridge is located between Vapi at 46 kilometers from Vapi 4 kilometers away and between Bilimora. The Kaveri is a tributary of the Ambika River. As per information provided by NHSRCL, the Kaveri bridge of length 120 meters is composed of 3 full-span girders of which each girder measures 40 meters in length. The pier of the bridge fall under the range of height of 13 to 21 meters. There was one pier with a diameter of 4 meters and other piers varying from 5 meters with some at 7 diameter.
She also notes that work on the Narmada River bridge which is the longest in the Gujarat length of the project 1.4 km continues at a rapid pace.
NHSRCL stated that the bridge over the Narmada River is being developed with 25 well foundations with some being as deep as 70 meters. NHSRCL Managing Director Vivek Kumar Gupta praised the engineers’ organizational works in relation particularly to seasonal interruptions like monsoon rains in September 2023 which saw a considerable stagnation of operations. 19 out of 25 well foundations have been completed despite of these barriers and work on the upper structure is in process.
The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor will have a total length of 508 kilometers including 12 stations out of which 8 are in the state of Gujarat while 4 are in Maharashtra. The stations in Gujarat will be at Sabarmati, Ahmedabad, Anand, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat and Vapi while in Maharashtra the stations will be at Boisar, Virar, Thana and Mumbai.
The government intends to launch operations of the first segment of the bullet train which is between Surat and Bilimora which is located in South Gujarat by the year 2026. It is projected that the complete project will finish in the year 2028 and the high speed train will cut down lenght of take between Mumbai and Ahemdabad to just three hours.
