The 130-meter-wide road leading to the cargo terminal of Jewar Airport will be completed before December when the proposed flight operations start. The Greater Noida Authority has built a 25-kilometer stretch of this road from Gaur City Chowk in Greater Noida West to Sirsa. Another 38 kilometers will be extended towards the Yamuna area, where the entrance of the cargo terminal will be located and which will connect with the future Khurja-Palwal Expressway.
An official said: “As sectors are coming up in the Yamuna Authority area, this 130-meter wide road is being constructed which is intended to run parallel to Yamuna Expressway.” Some 29 km out of those 38 kilometers have come up inside the Yamuna Authority area though it’s a segmented road. The authority faced land acquisition issues particularly because of court orders in some areas such as around Utavali due to which the process got delayed. The authority is currently engaged in talks with farmers for the remaining 9.5 km.
The talks have made significant progress and it is expected that by September developers acquire the necessary land through an agreement with farmers to complete the road. As per the proposal, flight operations are supposed to begin at the airport by December this year and therefore completion of this road has been prioritized.
Connecting with Khurja-Palwal Expressway
At present, this road enhances connectivity between Noida, Ghaziabad, and Greater Noida. Extending it to Jewar Airport would make access better and passenger travel easier eventually connecting with the proposed Khurja-Palwal Expressway also. Construction of this road will improve access not only to the Airport but to the entire region along Yamuna also so once flights start journeys on this route can be made faster.
Yamuna Authority CEO Dr Arunvir Singh said: “The 130-meter wide road from Greater Noida will extend into Yamuna City…We will complete the remaining quarter of the road which is pending due to land acquisition issues before flights start…This road will connect to the proposed Khurja-Palwal Expressway.”
